An ordinance that would provide $6.4 million for crime-prevention efforts was approved Wednesday by a Board of Supervisors budget committee.

The money, part of $50 million tapped from a budget surplus of $137 million, will pay for job training, services for parolees, transportation for at-risk youth and other programs.

In approving the $6.4 million, the committee held $2.2 million in reserve until the city Office of Economic and Workforce Development and the Department of Children, Youth & Their Families details how they will spend it.

Supervisors are scheduled to vote on the legislation Tuesday.
